What TP316 / 316L is
Type 316 is an 18Cr-10Ni austenitic stainless with 2 to 3% molybdenum. The molybdenum stabilizes the passive film against chloride pitting, making 316 the standard step up from 304 for marine atmospheres, brackish cooling water, and chemical process streams. The L grade limits carbon for weldability.

Where it is used
- Heat exchangers on brackish or treated cooling water.
- Chemical process exchangers handling organic acids, phosphoric acid, and chlorinated streams.
- Marine and offshore instrumentation and process tube.
- Pharmaceutical and food processing where 304 has pitted.
Beyond 316L
Seawater, hot chloride brines, or chloride stress corrosion cracking risk: SA789 duplex, C70600 copper-nickel, or the nickel alloys. We quote all of them from the same desk.
Seamless or welded, OD, wall, length or U-bend schedule, quantity, finish, PMI requirement, and the chloride level or process fluid so we can confirm 316L is adequate or suggest duplex.
