What SA213 T2 is
ASME SA213 covers seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy steel tube for boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers. Grade T2 is a low-alloy ferritic steel with nominally 0.5% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum. The molybdenum raises high-temperature strength and the chromium adds oxidation resistance, extending service beyond the limits of plain carbon tube.
Chemical composition
| Element | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Carbon | 0.10 to 0.20% |
| Manganese | 0.30 to 0.61% |
| Silicon | 0.10 to 0.30% |
| Chromium | 0.50 to 0.81% |
| Molybdenum | 0.44 to 0.65% |
| Phosphorus / Sulfur | 0.025% max each |
Mechanical properties
| Property | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength | 60,000 psi (415 MPa) |
| Yield strength | 30,000 psi (205 MPa) |
| Elongation in 2" | 30% |
| Hardness | 85 HRB max |
Where it is used
Economizers, low-temperature superheater sections, waterwall tube, and heat exchangers running warmer than carbon steel likes. Common in industrial boilers, HRSGs, and refinery process heaters.
Where it stops
Above roughly 950 to 1000 degrees F metal temperature, move to T11, T12, or T22. We stock and source the whole SA213 ferritic range, so a mixed-grade boiler retube can come from one order.
OD, minimum wall, length, quantity, heat treatment condition, any supplementary requirements (S1 through S8 in SA213), and whether the tube is for a Section I boiler or a Section VIII exchanger.
