What SA213 T22 is
T22 is a 2-1/4Cr-1Mo ferritic alloy steel, the highest-strength conventional low-alloy boiler tube before moving to the 9-chrome and stainless grades. It resists oxidation and graphitization to about 1100 degrees F and handles high-temperature hydrogen further along the Nelson curve than T11 or T12.
Chemical composition
| Element | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Carbon | 0.05 to 0.15% |
| Manganese | 0.30 to 0.60% |
| Silicon | 0.50% max |
| Chromium | 1.90 to 2.60% |
| Molybdenum | 0.87 to 1.13% |
| Phosphorus / Sulfur | 0.025% max each |
Mechanical properties
| Property | Minimum |
|---|---|

| Hardness | 85 HRB max |
Where it is used
- Final superheater and reheater tube in utility boilers.
- High-temperature headers and steam leads.
- HRSG high-pressure superheater modules.
- Hydrocracker and hydrotreater heater tubes within Nelson curve limits.
- Ammonia and methanol plant exchangers in hydrogen service.
Beyond T22
When T22 runs out of creep margin, the next steps are T91 modified 9-chrome or the austenitic stainless grades TP304H, TP321H, and TP347H. We supply those too.
OD, minimum wall, length, quantity, heat treatment condition, hardness cap, PMI requirement, and the ASME Section or licensor specification governing the job.
