What SA249 is
ASME SA249 covers welded austenitic stainless steel tube made from strip, welded without filler, then cold worked and solution annealed. The heat treatment recrystallizes the weld so the finished tube meets the same chemistry, mechanicals, and corrosion tests as seamless SA213 tube of the same grade.
Grades we supply under SA249
- TP304 / 304L, general corrosion service
- TP316 / 316L, chloride and chemical service
- TP321, TP347, and their H grades for high temperature
- Dual-certified material where the specification allows
When welded is the right call
- Heat exchanger and condenser bundles under ASME Section VIII.
- Boiler and superheater tube where SA249 is listed as an acceptable material.
- Food, dairy, pharmaceutical, and instrumentation tube.
- Any application where the budget favors welded and the code allows it.
When it is not
Some refinery licensors, nuclear specifications, and high-pressure services require seamless tube. Read the material list. If it says SA213, we will supply SA213.
Testing
Every SA249 tube we ship has passed 100% eddy current, and the lot has passed flattening, reverse flattening, flaring, and reverse bend tests on the weld. Intergranular corrosion testing per ASTM A262 is available when your specification calls for it.
Grade, OD, wall, length or U-bend schedule, quantity, finish, and whether the design code or customer permits welded tube. If it must be seamless, ask for SA213 instead.
