What Monel 405 is
Monel 405 is Monel 400 with 0.025 to 0.060% sulfur. The sulfur forms manganese sulfide inclusions that act as chip breakers, roughly doubling machinability without materially reducing corrosion resistance. It is not intended for welding or for thin-wall pressure tube; it is intended for parts that get turned, drilled, and threaded.
